Billed the newest, fasted and safest in winter fun and excitement, Colorado Adventure Park in Grand County offers a variety of activities to quench any families thirst for adventure. Just minutes from Winter Park Resort, Colorado Adventure Park offers tubing, airboards, snow scoots, sledding and sleigh rides at varying prices.

Tubing, the most popular of the Park’s family activities, is perfect for ages 3 and up. Take a ride on the Magic Carpet lift or cruise on a variety of terrain from slow and easy to fast and wild, whatever your heart desires.

Limited only by your sense of adventure, the Parks newest addition, airboards, are newer, faster tubes that can be steered. With a private terrain park, airboarding is soon to become a Park favorite for the 13 and older crowd.

Perfect for those competitive kiddos, snow scoots, a Polaris 120 snowmobile, are available to be ridden along groomed track in the Park’s meadow. In operation from 10 am to 6 pm, scoots are available to kids ages six and up and under 130 pounds.

And because we know that the three and under crowd doesn’t want to be out in the cold with nothing to pass the time, free sledding is offered and will keep the little ones grinning from ear to frozen ear.

After a busy day at the park, families can enjoy a scenic sleigh ridge provided by Fossil Ridge Horses through the meadow at Colorado Adventure Park, while they cuddle under a blanket. After a brisk ride, the whole family can cap off a perfect Park day with a cup of hot chocolate by a roaring fireside.

For the young and young at heart, everyone can test their sense of adventure at the newest in family winter fun at Colorado Adventure Park. The park is open from 10 am to 10 pm from November 18-April 18, depending on snow conditions. Reservations can be made by calling 970-726-5997.

Snowmobiling Winter Park

Like every other Winter Park activity, snowmobile riders have a number of options when if comes to getting the machines out. Offering both guided and unguided rides, snowmobiling is fast become a popular sport in the Winter Park area.

Grand Adventures, one of the premier snowmobile guiding entities in the area, operates guided tours that start at Winter Park Mountain Lodge, just across from the ski area. Each guided tour is custom designed to ensure the maximum Colorado snowmobiling experience. With no more than eight in a group, riders are able to ask questions of their guides, all of whom have an excellent understanding of the area. A variety of sleds are available, from the latest in mountain performance to those more advanced riders, to the most luxurious in touring sleds.

Riders looking for an unguided adventure should check out Grand Adventures Beaver Village, located in downtown Winter Park, or Grand Lake. Located just 35 miles north of Winter Park in the Rocky Mountains, Grand Lake features four and eight hour unguided rentals. Riders can enjoy the Colorado backcountry as they tour the Arapaho National Forest at their leisure, a ride that is perfect for the more advanced rider.

Grand Lake has long been known as the Snowmobile Capital of Colorado, as it boasts an abundance of excellent riding for all abilities. Riders are also impressed by the fact that they can leave their cars behind and head into town for lunch, dinner or lodging after a day out on the machines. Located on the right as you enter Grand Lake from CO Hwy 34, high performance machines are available. Reservations are strongly recommended for 4 and 8-hour rentals, but those looking for a shorter unguided trip are welcome to walk in.

Sombrero Stable, one of three sleigh ride choices, operates out of two locations: Beaver Village in Winter Park and Snow Mountain Ranch. Snow Mountain Ranch offers horse drawn sleigh rides beneath the stars and moon. Upon returning, sleigh riders are greeted by a bonfire, hot cocoa and roasted marshmallows. Finally, Devil’s Thumb Ranch offers sleigh rides that combine European elegance with American hospitality. Offering rides from a half hour to 1.5 hours in length, reservations are required and can be made by calling 970-726-7000.

Bring the entire family to Winter Park/Fraser and spend some time with man’s best friend in a truly exhilarating experience.

A past time that became popular in light of races like the Iditarod and Yukon Qwest in Alaska, Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park gets most of their dogs from local kennels or homes. These Winter Park mushers operate summer cart rides, but the winter months are prime, as Dog Sleds of Winter Park has 80 Siberian and Alaskan Huskies that pull sleds in the forests near Winter Park. Each ride is a 45-minute tour on a private trail system where wildlife, including moose and coyotes, or at least their tracks, are often spotted.

Each ride can accommodate one to three guests in each sled, depending on weight and height. The trip covers approximately five miles and is complete with amazing view of the Continental Divide, Winter Park Resort and a plethora of 13,000-foot snow-covered peaks.

Trips are offered everyday the trails are open, with the exception a few dates January-April. The Fraser Valley usually has snow by the middle of November until the middle of April and because many sledders come to the area to ski Winter Park, Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park tends to be open on the same schedule as the resort. Prices vary for the winter and summer months. Reservations and a deposit are required for all trips, as well as the summer kennel tour, and can be made online.

For skiers craving a Nordic experience, there is no better place than Grand County, Colorado, for cross-country skiers of every level and interest.

Home to Granby, Grand Lake, Kremmling, Hot Sulphur Springs, Winter Park, a number of commercial, as well as backcountry sites, Grand County offers skiers varied terrain and breathtaking views of the majestic Rockies.

Devil’s Thumb Ranch
Located in Tabernash, Colorado, Devil’s Thumb Ranch features 100 km of groomed trails and skating tracks that wander through 5,000 acres of secluded meadows and hills and poses a challenge to every level of skier. Offering both day and night skiing, man’s best friend is also welcome to join in some skijoring (skiing with your harnessed dog)! The perfect place to stay and play, the Ranch is home to a full-range of luxury cabins, as well as a state-of-the art spa facility.

Snow Mountain Ranch
Just outside Granby, Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center also features 100 km of groomed track. With trails that wander through pine forest, wide meadows and along Pole Creek, Snow Mountain is home to many of the more advanced trails. With 2-km of lighted trail for those nighttime skiers, skijoring is also popular.

SolVista Basin
Home to some 40 km of sparsely crowded, groomed trails, SolVista Basin in Granby borders two alpine ski hills, from which the brave can take in views of the Continental Divide and the Indian. Free for use, SolVista offers a ski rental shop, lessons, as well as alpine skiing.

Grand Lake Touring Center
Active as a golf course in the summer, after the first snow fall Grand Lake becomes home to some 30 km of groomed, tracked and skating trails. Cross-country lovers can wander the rolling hills of the golf course and nearby forest. Also home to the more challenging backcountry trails, Grand Lake features full moon skis, rentals, lessons, as well as a restaurant and lounge on site.

Latigo Ranch
The best of guest ranch hospitality, Latigo Ranch in Kremmling is home to 60 km of prime nordic skiing. Backcountry and telemark trails lead out into the surrounding forest, which along with excellent food and historic lodging makes Latigo Ranch one of Grand County’s most memorable getaway spots.

For those that dare, more than 70 percent of Grand County’s area is open space and can be used freely by cross-country skiers. Remote areas in Rocky Mountain National Park, Arapaho National Forest, Medicine Bow National Forest and the Vasquez, Beyers, Never Summer and Indian Peak wilderness can be accessed by the more daring and information is available at any of the above nordic centers.
